MySQL 5.5 Release Candidate
Monday, 20 September 2010 09:24

The first MySQL 5.5 release candidate was presented on Oracle's OpenWorld conference.

The biggest change is that the default database engine is now InnoDB and not MyISAM. InnoDB supports transactions and foreign keys which both are not supported by the old default engine. The downside of InnoDB is that there is currently no support for full-text indexes (MyISAM supported that). See the press release of MySQL and the introduction to MySQL 5.5 for more information.
